The AI Visibility Audit checks whether these engines name your business

ChatGPT Gemini Claude Google AI Overviews Perplexity coming soon

Why AI search visibility matters

Your customers are asking ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews who to hire. Are they naming your business?

The answer is a shortlist

An AI answer usually names a handful of businesses. If you are not one of them, that customer may never see you, however well you rank elsewhere.

4.4×

Those visitors are ready to buy

People who arrive from an AI answer have already done their research. Semrush estimates the average AI search visitor is worth 4.4 times a traditional organic visitor.

It is measurable now

You can ask the engines the questions your customers ask and count who gets named. That gives you a baseline to improve on, before a competitor does.

Where we ask

The four places buying questions most often get answered. Every audit states how many answers came back from each.

EngineWhy it matters
Google AI Overviews The answer above Google's search resultsShown above Google's results, so it reaches the most people, and it is the one surface most businesses have never checked.
ChatGPT OpenAI, with web searchThe assistant most people mean when they say they asked AI.
Gemini Google, with Search groundingBuilt into Android and across Google's apps.
Claude Anthropic, with web searchUsed heavily at work, so it matters more for professional and B2B buyers than its size suggests.
Perplexity Coming soonBeing added to every audit. It cites its sources heavily, which shows which sites carry weight in your category.

Most AI visibility scores are more confident than the data supports.

Here is what we do differently, and what we will tell you that others will not.

We report presence, not rank1

Ask an engine the same question twice and the order of the businesses it names changes. So we report how often you appear out of how many answers, which holds steady between runs, and we show your competitors on exactly the same denominator.

We count every answer2

Ask the same question three times and you can get different answers. We keep all three instead of picking the flattering one, and we point out the questions that swung between runs.

We say what we measured3

We query these engines through their APIs. An API is not identical to the consumer app: retrieval and ranking differ. Every competitor in this category has that limitation. We are just going to be the ones who print it.

We keep the raw answers

Every response, with every source cited, stays available to you. If you disagree with a finding you can read the answer it came from, rather than take a dashboard's word for it.

How the audit works

Mostly automated, reviewed by the Surf Rider Media team before it reaches you, and back within two business days. Every number in it traces to an answer we kept.

1

Build the questions

Thirty buying questions for your category and city, built from the searches you gave the free check: finding a provider, a specific service, a problem, your reputation.

2

Ask the engines

Every question, three times, on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. About 360 answers, every one kept, so a steady answer can be told apart from a coin flip.

3

Map what gets cited

Every source the engines drew on, ranked by domain: the sites they already trust in your category, and the shortest path to being quoted alongside them.

4

Review and hand over

The Surf Rider Media team checks the findings before they go out. You get the report, every raw answer as a spreadsheet, and a 30 minute call to go through it.

What the audit generates

The readiness check reads your site. The audit asks the engines, and shows where you were named and how often you come up next to your competitors.

Sample figures, not a client result. Your competitors are scored on the same questions.

We ran the audit on our own travel site, Oahu Travel Guide: 30 questions, three engines, each asked three times. The full report runs 17 pages, with a section on where the business shows up across the web and a check-by-check site readiness review. These are three of them, including the competitor who is named in one unprompted answer out of four while we are named in none (5.9% of all 270 answers, once the questions that named us are counted).

Many sites block the AI crawlers, and their owners have no idea.

Not deliberately. A plugin default, a security setting, a line a developer added years ago and forgot. The engines cannot read your site, so they recommend someone whose site they can.

What that looks like in robots.txt

While those two lines are there, no amount of content work will make you visible in ChatGPT. It takes minutes to fix, and the free readiness check below finds it.

Questions about the AI Visibility Audit

What is an AI visibility audit?

It measures whether AI assistants name your business when a customer asks them who to hire. We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews thirty buying questions for your category and city, three times each, then report how often you are named, how that compares with up to five competitors, and which sources the engines cite.

How much does the AI Visibility Audit cost?

$500 for a one-time audit when you book by December 31, 2026, and $1,000 after that. Quarterly re-checks take 15% off the audit ($425, then $300 every three months). Monthly re-checks take 25% off ($375, then $150 a month).

How long does it take?

The first audit is back within two business days, reviewed by the Surf Rider Media team, with a 30 minute call to go through it. Every re-check is reviewed too.

Which AI engines does it check?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. Perplexity is being added to every audit. Each report states the number of answers each engine returned.

How is this different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit looks at where your pages rank in Google's results. This audit reads the AI answers themselves: whether you are named, how often compared with your competitors, and which sites the engines rely on in your category. It also checks whether AI crawlers can read your site at all, since two lines in robots.txt can shut them out.

Why doesn't ChatGPT recommend my business?

Common causes: AI crawlers are blocked from your site, few of the sources the engines trust mention you, or your site never says plainly what you do and where. The audit shows which ones apply to you. Our guide on how to get ChatGPT to recommend your business covers the fixes.

What is the difference between the free check and the audit?

The free AI Readiness Check reads your site and scores whether AI engines can find and understand it. The audit asks the engines your customers' questions and shows who they actually name, you or a competitor.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend me?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. The engines change their answers from one run to the next. The audit gives you a measured baseline, the sources worth earning a mention from, and fixes reviewed by our team, so you can see whether your work moves the number.

Find out what the engines say about you

The AI Visibility Audit asks the engines the questions your customers ask and shows who they name, you or a competitor, back in two business days. $500 when you book by December 31, less with monthly or quarterly re-checks.
